AXILLARY HYPERHIDROSIS TREATMENT
Axillary hyperhidrosis is the term used to describe excessive
sweating under the arms. In the recent years, the treatment
of this bothersome and often embarrassing condition has been
revolutionised by use of Botulinum A toxin, otherwise also
used to treat wrinkles by the means of controlled muscle relaxation.
In our clinic you will always be asessed and treated only by an experienced resident doctors, unlike many places you may have come across where these delicate specialist medical procedures are delivered by non-medical personnel without direct supervision, which may be very dangerous and often results in a variety of serious medical and aesthetic complications. This is not a concern in our clinic, as our doctors, who administer these treatments, are trained by UK's leading plastic surgeons and derive their excellent skills from years of medical practice in a variety of disciplines including surgery, dematology and aesthetic medicine. This extremely effective treatment consists of superficial
injections of a small amount of medication into the armpits.
This works to reduce nerve stimulation of sweat glands thus
preventing them from producing excessive sweat. The rest of
your body will compensate for this and no other areas will
be affected.
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING AND AFTER THE TREATMENT?
A. A series of relatively painless superficial injections
are delivered to the underarm area, which usually takes around
30 minutes to treat both sides. You may resume your normal
activities immediately after but we recommend you do not exercise
vigorously, drink excessive alcohol or lie flat for 4 hours
after the treatment.
You will experience reduced sweating within 2-3 days, with
the full effect taking place within 2 weeks.
Q. HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT LAST?
A. Most people experience complete relief for 6-9 months,
but it’s not uncommon for the effect to last for up
to 12 months.
Once the effect of injections wears off, you can have repeat
treatments which, with time, have even longer lasting results
and are needed less often.
Q. ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
A. Rarely, there may be some mild bruising which settles
within 1-2 days.
Q. IS THIS TREATMENT SUITABLE FPOR ME?
A. This treatment will not be suitable for you in the following
situations:
- if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- if you have been diagnosed with a neuromuscular condition
such as Myasthenia Gravis
- if you are taking certain types of medications including
antibiotics erythromycin and azithromycin
If you are taking regular aspirin or ibuprofen you can still
have this treatment but be aware that the side effect of mild
bruising may be more likely.
Also, we advise you not to drink excessive amounts of alcohol
in the week prior to treatment as this can also increase the
likelihood of bruising.
