CHEMICAL SKIN PEELS
Chemical skin peels are a method of skin resurfacing which treat certain skin conditions as well as improve the overall condition and appearance of the skin.
The areas we typically treat are skin of the face, neck, back of hands, décolletage and. It is an excellent treatment used to improve
the condition and appearance of the skin in variety of ways
including:
- decreasing wrinkles
- improving skin tone and texture
- treatment of acne
- removing sun and age spots and patchy skin colour
- reducing the size of pores and treatment of oily skin
We use the highest quality self-neutralising chemical peels
of different strengths from the Procedure range. These are medical grade peels only available to trained medical professionals and should not be confused with mild peels otherwise available on the High street.
In our clinic you will always be asessed and treated according to your individual requirements, and only by experienced resident doctors, so you can rest assured you are in Safe Hands .
We carefully choose the peels to perfectly suit the needs
of your complexion and tailor the treatment individually.
Whichever type or combination of peels is used, we price our
treatments from £300 per 3 sessions.
This treatment is usually delivered in courses
of 3 in order to achieve the optimal result without scarring and damaging the skin. This ensures best results with
minimal downtime, thus avoiding extensive damage to the skin often seen in television programmes.
All our skin peel treatments require application of an appropriate
skin serum from 2 to 4 weeks prior to commencement of treatment
to prepare the skin adequately and gradually introduce
it to the acidic peeling agents, as well as to promote between-peel
healing and skin recovery. You can read more about that in the section on Cosmeceuticals which are an integral part of any skin treatment, and also available for
purchase at our Clinic. Please inquire about our special deals on combination treatments by contacting us directly on 01440 762 116 or email us at info@drbowenskinclinic.co.uk
ASCORBIC ACID PEEL
Mild peeling agent which is ideal to use on all skin types.
Performed regularly, Ascorbic Acid Peel can help resolve uneven
pigmentation and provide exfoliation benefits for more reactive
skin types. It can also be used in conjunction with other
Procedure Peels.
BHA PEELS
BHA (salicylic acid) is attracted to the lipid content of
the skin, particularly sebum which is found predominantly
in follicles. This peel helps to regulate the turnover of
superficial skin (epithelial) cells and shed unwanted cellular
debris. This helps to unclog pores, reducing blackheads and
pimples. It can be used in conjunction with other Procedure
Peels.
L-LACTIC ACID PEELS
The L-lactic acid peel stimulates epidermal differentiation
and it acts to facilitate final shedding of superfluous surface
skin cells. This results in a reduction of fine lines and
improvement in overall skin tone and texture. It can also
be used in conjunction with other Procedure Peels.
TCA PEELS
TCA (trichloroacetic acid) has traditionally been used as
a medium to deep peeling agent. More recently, it’s benefits
in superficial skin layers have been elucidated. The lower
concentration peels used in our clinic affect gentle sloughing
of stratum corneum without traumatising sensitive sun-damaged
skin. It also helps re-establish fine capillary network atrophied
by UV radiation, and treat sallowness.
SKIN REJUVENATION
We carefully choose the peels to perfectly suit the needs
of your complexion and tailor the treatment individually.
Whichever type or combination of peels is used, we price our
treatments from £300 per 3 sessions.
This treatment is ideally combined with other treatments, such as IPL and Laser Skin Rejuvenation, and regular use of prescription Cosmeceuticals which are also available for purchase at our Clinic. ACNE TREATMENT
Acne are a common problem and always require combination treatment due to presence of acne causing bacteria that need to be treated in the entire area (such as the face or back) or the problem will reoccur. It is important to follow medical advice and have realistic expectations about the lenght of time that may be involved in achieving a complete clearance, as well as to have understanding of certain rarer underlying causes such as hormonal problems, which will necessitate ongoing maintenance treatments in some cases.
For vast majority of patients with acne problems, BHA or salicylic acid peels are used to treat active acne, mild acne scarring and discolouration, almost always in combination with other peels, Cosmeceuticals, and/or treatments such as IPL and Laser Acne Treatment. This combination treatment approach works to achieve full resolution of underlying causes of acne such as clearance of acne-causing bacteria, regulating sebum production and oil flow, improving skin healing and minimising and unclogging the skin pores, to ultimately achieve
optimal skin condition and appearance. In most cases one
or two courses of 3 skin peel treatments combined with prescription Cosmeceutical regime will produce the desired result within 3 to 6 months, whereas IPL treatment may take slightly longer.
PIGMENT PROBLEMS
Areas of increased pigmentation can give uneven appearance
to the skin as well as be a result of significant sun damage.
In order to treat this we will most commonly use Ascorbic
acid peel and medical grade cosmetic serums from Rationale Cosmeceuticals
range, alone or in combination with L-lactic acid or TCA peels
to achieve the desired result of smooth, even and
youthful skin. This treatment is ideally combined with other treatments such as IPL and Laser Pigment Removal and IPL and Laser Skin Rejuvenation.
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I REQUIRE?
A. It depends entirely on your skin and strength and type
of peel used. Most of our patients with mild to moderate skin
damage require a course of 3 peels over 3 month period, with
a maintenance peel once every 6 months. Patients with particularly
sensitive or damaged skin may need 2 or more courses initially
to achieve the best result, and after that can maintain the
improvement with 6 monthly maintenance peels.
Q. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE THE PEEL?
A. Following the initial consultation, your treating doctor
will prescribe a pre-peel home care regime which is usually
followed 2-4 weeks before your first peel.
Q. WHAT WILL MY SKIN BE LIKE AFTRE THE PEEL?
A. Most of our patients are able to carry on their daily
activities after the peel, including putting on make up. Rarely,
a minor redness or swelling may develop, which subsides within
a day or two. We ask you to use a sunscreen with SPF 25+
during your treatment and to avoid sunbathing in the first
week after the peel.
